BARNER LEARNING CENTER’S PHILIPPINE RECOGNITION: THE PHILIPPINE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
EACH YEAR REQUIRES THAT BARNER LEARNING CENTER RENEW ITS ANNUAL PERMIT
TO OPERATE AS A PRIVATE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL. THIS PROCESS IS VERY COSTLY
& TIME-CONSUMING (6 MOS).
LARGER SCIENCE LAB(cost: $0) BLC’s new 2nd floor “Practical Education” wing includes a bathroom, Science Laboratory, Industrial Arts Lab and Music Room. A friend in New York paid for our science lab equipment, but since the government said the room is too small, we will likely move the sixth grade class to the 2nd floor science room and the science room to the first-floor sixth-grade classroom. SECOND STAIRCASE(cost: $2,500) BLC has one of the widest & most convenient set of halls/staircases of all elementary schools in Davao (2 meters wide). Still, the government recommended that, since we have a three-story building, there be separate “up” and “down” stairways on opposite sides of the campus, in case of blockage during fire. Space is available at the end of the hall of our new Practical Education wing. It is here that we’ll place the needed staircase, when God sends funds. |

DO YOU HAVE A SPRING PROJECT?THESE ARE NEEDS THAT WE HAVE TO SUPPLY FOR OUR 2006 BLC CONSTRUCTION:
|
||||
CHILD-FRIENDLY LIBRARY(cost: $950) BLC’s library has increased in size by changing locations three times. A future goal is our third-floor, fully-functional $22,000 library. Yet since our budget for this is only 20% attained, we must consider a second option: to use what we have. By moving half of our 7,000 volumes to mini-libraries in classrooms, space will be available in our small 50-sq meter library to build more bookshelves and also insert tables, chairs, and mats on which small children can sit to read. LANGUAGE/MEDIA LAB(cost: $5,250) BLC has never considered including a language laboratory, but it
is a new requirement of the government, as well as a media lab. The
only area with space for a media lab is our indoor children’s playland.
Since a friend in New Jersey gave funds for us to purchase an outdoor
playground, we could convert our present indoor playland into 2 labs,
one for language and the other for media. The proposal is expensive
though, including curriculum, tables, chairs and equipment.
