OUR BLC GIRLS PRESENTED AN EXHUBERANT AND JOYFUL
TAMBOURINE DANCE DURING THE 2005 UNITED NATIONS DAY. |
WHEN YOU GIVE…YOU RECEIVE!“The bride caught her own bouquet!” It was the first time, in all the many weddings I have attended and participated in, that the bride actually caught her own bouquet! A ceiling fan was twirling high over the bride Lynn’s head. As she stood with her back to the single girls who were anxiously waiting with sweaty palms, Lynn’s arm stretched into the air and the bouquet went soaring. Suddenly, as if reaching out with an invisible hand, the ceiling fan grasped hold of the bundle of flowers and spun it around 360 degrees, returning it right back into the gloved hand of the bride, from whence it came! With a look of shock, and then a giant grin on the bride’s face, the reception hall suddenly burst into a roar of laughter! Lynn’s mother Bebing is our BLC janitor, and her boisterously resonant voice rose gleefully above those of all the rest who were present. Our BLC administrator Dr. Ayoc gave a short challenge to the newlyweds, after which time Elvie and I were both asked to close with prayer, which we did. We reminded Randy and Lynn that, over the years as they draw closer to Jesus, they will also grow closer to each other.

SPIRITUAL MULTIPLICATION“How do you do it on $20 a month?” “Look what happens when I put a pesos into this envelope…it doubled and became 2 pesos!” Four years ago Faith Fellowship Church outgrew our alleyway church and moved temporarily into the BLC gym. Our building fund sets aside $50 each month to buy land for a church building. But at this rate, it will be 2020 before we have our own place to worship! Recently a friend in China challenged our congregation that he would match any funds given for the church building project from now until April, up to $1,000! So if the worshippers here give $1,000, it will become $2,000! After placing a box on the front table in the church, one-by-one each adult walked up to the front and placed his/her little brown envelope in, until the box was overflowing with little brown envelopes! We’ll do this each Sunday until April. The total today was $22, given by 77 people! That is an average of 28 cents (1hour’s wage) per person.

DO YOU HAVE A FALL PROJECT?THESE ARE NEEDS THAT WE HAVE TO SUPPLY FOR OUR 2005 BLC CONSTRUCTION:

THE BIBLE- OUR TEXTBOOK“Study to show yorself approved unto God”–2 Tim 2:15 “Ang yang haseo!” (Good morning, in Korean) Greeting 22 yr old James in his own language, I visit him twice a week to tutor him in English. After reading a few chapters in Swiss Family Robinson, it is time to check his grammar. “It’s not, ‘I went THE store,’ but ‘I went TO the store.’” Next, for sentence comprehension we read “Bible Pathways”. “James, in today’s Bible passage, who killed the giant, Goliath? Right, it was David. Now recite your Bible verses.” To internalize the language, James has now memorized half of the 1st chapter of the book of James, and is adding 2 more verses every week. Maybe not word perfect, and pronunciation needs work, but… close enough. He does not have his own English Bible, so I let him borrow my old black preaching Bible. My parents replaced it with a new one last year for my birthday. After reading a few chapters in Billy Graham’s “Peace with God” book, James closes with prayer. This is an example of using every opportunity (even tutoring English) to glean more from scripture. An American, teaching English to a Korean in the Philippines! |
