Teacher "Chat" leads her class in a Christmas chorus for the party.

Rejoice! A Sinner Repents

"Come on pastor! Sing with us!" In their drunken slurs, the men wanted me to accompany their singing of love songs on the microphone of the kereoke machine. Not being familiar with the words, I did my best to join along.

"Yooooou liiiiight up myyyy liiiiife..." But the words just went too fast across the screen of the TV for me. Give me some praise choruses, and I have no problem. Love songs are not my speed. Nonetheless, I sang along.

It was a birthday party for the mother in one of the new families in the church. They so appreciated our willingness to accept them as they were, that they asked that we start a Prayer Meeting in their home.

Wednesdays, the congregation has so many varied schedules, that we started having three prayer meetings: one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in this family's house, at night.

This week there was a wonderful surprise in store for us: Elvie prayed with the father of the family to be saved! No more love songs!

An Exemplary Testimony

"Mrs. Barner, would you like to be on the town board?" Elvie, being a Filipina, and as the principal of our school, was asked to replace one of the members of the Laverna Homeowners' Association (LHA) board, who had gone abroad.

We agreed that this would be a perfect opportunity to share the gospel with the others on the board, who represent a variety of faiths. Their meeting to receive her officially on the board was held in the gymnasium at our school, BLC.

"Wow, this is a really great place to meet. Might it be possible to have our board Christmas party here, if the outdoor basketball court gets rained out that night?"

Sure, but since the school is drug -free, and since we use the facility for church Sundays, no drugs, smoking or alcohol. Agreed! Praise God!

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:

"Spiritually, Asia represents one of today's great mission challenges. This is harvest season in Asia."

Babes in Christ

"If Jesus were to ask you today, 'What will you do for me?', what would you suggest?" This is my question to our church.

How do you run a church of 130 men, women and children, 90% of whom are either non-Christians or new Christians? The answer? With lots of prayer!...and careful planning. Lots of TLC. Personal attention.
First step was to identify the strong Christians. Then approach them as to their willingness to serve in the church. When they said yes, then I appointed them as leaders before they could change their minds.
Step two is the discipleship process, to train the new believers to become solid in their faith, and ready for leadership.

Finally, spend lots of quality time with each and every one of the people in the church. One by one, I am taking aside church members and getting their feedback on what needs there are in the line of personnel in the church, and what position they feel qualified for. My goal is 100% participation. We must be effective in our ministry, for Jesus could return today!
